Family

Anna is the mother of Emma (10) and Matthew (9). She has previously undergone chemotherapy and fortunately her prognosis is positive. Her marriage is undergoing strain due to the mounting long term pressures of cancer diagnosis. Anna sought support for her children through the MKWF Program as she has felt they are struggling emotionally.

Session

All MKWF participants commence the Program with a self-portrait exercise and a family portrait exercise. The self-portrait assists in promoting communication about self image and self perception.

Emma has drawn herself with a serious and direct expression on her face. She has placed much emphasis on her hair and attention to detail in her eyes.

Reflection

Family portraits can include relatives, friends and even animals. Family portraits do not necessarily represent the people in the genetic family, rather the people in and around the child’s world who they feel emotionally close to. The information present in this drawing can be used to discuss the supportive relationship between the two friends, as too, Simone and Tom. It is imperative to always work towards communication.
